Why Moms Need Alone Time and Where to Find It

August 23, 2014

Whether you’re a stay at home mom or work long hours in the office, it’s important that you take good care of yourself. If you have recently entered motherhood or you have your full brood in place, the daily stresses and responsibilities of looking after the kids can be incredibly draining. There’s no shame in needing some alone time, so here are a few reasons why having some time away is so important, and how to find it.

You Deserve It

First and foremost, you deserve some alone time! You should never feel any guilt or shame if you’re struggling. The pressures and responsibilities of motherhood can be overwhelming for even the most organized of moms, so make sure that you give yourself some time to relax and unwind. Many moms don’t get enough credit for all the hard work they do, so be sure to reward yourself from time to time such as by getting a massage or having a girls night with your nearest and dearest.

Improves Your Mood

If you are starting to get anxious and irritated by the littlest things, this could be down to a lack of self-care. Being a mom is an incredibly busy job, and we need a break from it all at times. If you’re not feeling yourself, it could be because you haven’t recharged. The last thing you want to do is take out your anger on your kids, so having some time away to recharge and refuel is crucial.

Helps You Be Thankful

When you’re constantly on the go, it can be all too easy to not think about what you’ve already achieved. Firstly, you’ve done an amazing thing by bringing a life into the world, and secondly, your nurturing and love for your child doesn’t go unnoticed! Taking some time to sit down and think about your achievements and all the things you’re thankful for can help clear your mind and express gratitude. You should never take your family for granted, so having some alone time can help get your mind back in order.

Helps You Focus

With so much going on, no one can blame you if you’re unable to focus. Whether it be driving your daughter to a dance class or attending an important work meeting, your mind can go into overdrive, making it hard to stay focused. Having some time to relax and unwind can help you resume to motherly duties with a fresh-faced approach.

Know You’re Not Alone

While we know we’re all brought into the world by someone, you can still feel incredibly isolated and alone during motherhood. Knowing there are others out there going through the exact same thing as you can be a big help, so you may want to consider becoming a member of Emenator, which is one of the latest social media platforms. Emenator allows you to create your own groups based on your interests, so you could set up your own mom group where you can engage with others in the same boat as you.

If you are a single parent or you live as a family unit, factoring in some ‘me’ time is crucial. Having some alone time can not only help improve your mood but give you a whole new perspective on life. Whether it be having a soak in the bath, popping in to see a friend, or engaging with other moms, you will soon see the huge benefits that some alone time can bring you.
