Maintaining your home includes more than the inside. The outside of your home cannot be forgotten about. No matter where you live, there are a few steps you can take to maintain the exterior of your home. Here are some ways that you can clean up the outside of your home to improve curb appeal.
Consider updating your landscaping, if you keep up with your landscaping. If you have overgrown landscaping cut it back. Overgrown plants, grass and trees take away from your house’s curb appeal. It looks sloppy and forgotten about. Consider swapping out your grass for some other type of grass. Maybe you can plant flowers. You can even plant a tree. Another option is creating a garden either in the backyard or in the front yard.
Make sure that your siding is kept up. Take a bucket of sudsy water and a stiff brush and work your magic. This can work on any material like vinyl, aluminum, wood, shingle or brick. You may need a ladder or a long pole that way you can clean the house from top to bottom. It may seem overwhelming, but execute the clean one area at a time. Make sure that you are rinsing off that section before going on to the next. You should do this at least twice a year.
If you have any siding that is lose or cracked, make sure that they are repaired as soon as possible. If left untreated or repaired, you are vulnerable to insect damage and rainwater seeping in. Both of those situations are not ideal. No one likes pests. When water gets behind siding, it will rot to the wall.
Finding damages that need repairs is not difficult. All you have to do is use a siding tool and put it back into place. If you notice any insect or water damage, keep in mind that needs to be repaired before you can fix the siding.
Mildew can get in all nooks and crannies. Make sure that you spray the mildewed area with a power washer and clean it with a solution of one part household bleach and four parts water. It is recommended that you use this solution because it helps thwart the spread of mildew. Please note that if it stays after you have cleaned it, you must repeat the process until it is clean.
Make sure that you do not forget about your gutters. Gutter cleaning is one of the easiest ways to improve the outside look of your home. It is important that you unclog your gutters. Clogged gutters lead to problems that ultimately lead to other problems. Make sure that you clean your gutters at least twice a year. It is better to do it in the fall and spring. If you do not take heed to this advice you will risk debris from overhanging or tees that are nearby. Trim those overhanging trees.
