Relaxation and mum are not two words that tend to go hand-in-hand. However, it is vital that you find some time for yourself so that you can unwind. Taking a trip to the spa and enjoying a pamper session sounds amazing, but it’s probably an unrealistic option for must mums! Fear not, though, as there are some simple steps you can take to relax as a busy mum…

Enjoy the sounds of water – Water can be very calming and soothing. If you live near a lake, river, or beach, enjoy a nice walk whenever you get the opportunity throughout the day. If you don’t live near water, you can relax in the bath or in bed with sounds of the ocean playing in the background. Youtube.com is the best place for soft, relaxing yoga sounds.

Practice breathing techniques – Obviously, you breathe in and out all of the time! But it is the way you do so that matters. Take your time to breathe in at a slow pace, through your nose and out through your mouth. Concentrate on this and nothing else. If you repeat this ten times, you should start to feel any tension disappear.

Take up yoga – As a parent, you probably don’t have time to attend exercise classes! However, you don’t need to attend yoga classes to take up yoga. Nowadays, you can easily watch exercise videos online so you can get to grips with some basic yoga moves. Yoga is great for relaxing your mind and body while helping you to get killer abs in the process.

Watch your favourite TV show – How often do you watch television? Probably not a lot! The television may be on, but it’s unlikely you are able to pay much attention. Once this has been installed, you will have your favourite programs at your disposal. Make sure you only watch TV when you are able to fully watch it and give it your full attention. This is the only way you are going to truly relax.

Stay away from people that make you stressed – Last but not least; stress is contagious! You already have enough on your plate with your children; so do not spend time with people that are only going to add to your stress. Socialise with people that are fun, upbeat, and supportive.

So there you have it: some of the best ways to relax as a busy mum. Whether it is taking some time to watch your favourite television programme to enjoying the sounds of water, there are any ways you can unwind as a busy mum. Remember it is important to prioritise yourself sometimes too!
