So, it’s a rare occasion, and you’ve managed to pack the kids off for the night, you have the house to yourself…so what should you do?
First of all, this is the most important thing. Do not spend your time worrying about the kids and missing them. They’ll be back soon enough, so for now, make the most of this time and enjoy yourself.
There’s nothing wrong with just using this time to have some much needed and undisturbed sleep; it will do you good. Pull the shutters down, even if it’s early and get in bed and finally get some much-needed zzzs. You don’t need to set the alarm, and you won’t have any little people waking you up through the night or early in the morning – it’ll be bliss!
You could use this time to get rid of a load of their toys. Kids end up with so much stuff, and a lot of it is junk however if you try to get rid of things while your kids are there, you’ll find they won’t be too happy about it. However, if you can do it while they’re out, then chances are they won’t actually notice and they won’t miss what you’ve got rid of. You could go and give toys they have grown out of to younger kids you know, take them to the charity shop or donate them to a local nursery.
How often have you opened your book only to be disturbed by a little one? Take this time to get stuck in and finally finish that book. Enjoy it too, get relaxed and set up on the sofa or in bed, pour yourself a drink and escape into another world.
When was the last time you had a bath without someone walking in? Take the time to do that now and again, make it a special one. Get a bath bomb or some bath salts, light some candles, put some music on and get in that tub. Take your time and really pamper yourself. Then when you’re done in the bath, you can moisturise, paint your nails, and just generally sort yourself out and relax.
Drink Too Much
You might as well crack open a decent bottle of wine and just get drunk, why not? There are no kids to disturb you in the morning, so you might as well make the most of it.
Eat What You Want, When You Want
Do you find yourself eating later and later once the kids have gone to bed? Or if they’re up, do they just want to eat your dinner? Well, make the most of eating what you want and when you want, and you don’t have to share.
Re-Connect With Your Partner
It’s easy to forget your partner with the distraction of the kids so when you get the chance to, enjoy some time with them. Whether it’s going out for a nice meal or a date night, or you just spend some time in bed together. Make the most of the time you have and re-connect, as you may not have realised that you haven’t connected for a while.
