So you’ve just bought your first home, how exciting! Chances are this home will be perfect in many ways but will still require some work to bring it into line with what you want. Everyone’s tastes are different, and you need to make your new home a place that feels like your own. By renovation parts of it from the start, you will not only create the living space you desire, but you will also add value to the property if you later decide to sell it.

Motion Detector Lighting

Unless your first home is hi-tech chances are it won’t have motion detector lighting outside. But they are a great feature that can add security to your home as well as safety; they can also help to increase the value of your home. Motion detector lighting is usually installed at the front of the house and the back. It uses infrared sensors to detect movement in the area. When you come home late at night, they will switch on for you, making it easier to find your keys.

A Bathroom Upgrade

Even though it’s your first home, you might as well get started adding value to it from the get-go. One way to do this is to upgrade your bathroom or add a second bathroom on the ground floor, check out granny flat builders for more ideas. Start with your existing bathroom. Paint the walls, replace the fixings, and install a glass enclosure for your shower. Next, consider what rooms you have available on the lower level. Large cupboards make great bathroom renovation projects and add extra value to your property.

Take Care of Flooring

If you’ve recently bought your first home, you will be thrilled to bits, no doubt! But there’s sure to be some aspects of your bought house you don’t like and long to change. The flooring can often be one such issue. Often new homes have carpets that are not to everyone’s taste. If you have the budget, consider ripping them out and replacing them with good quality hardwood floors. Depending on your budget you can choose from real wood or vinyl. Both give you great looking floors.

Paint Some Accent Walls

Accent walls refer to one wall of your room that’s painted with a stand out color. The color contrasts with the decor into the rest of the room and brings in a new dimension of visual appeal and space. This home renovation idea is easy to do and budget-friendly, it’s also one of the fun parts of the renovation, you can awaken your creative side and choose a color that gives your room a new feel. You can further complement the decor by intriguing matching and contrasting cushions and throws.

Improve Your Landscaping

Many people leave their landscaping until the end, but the truth is that landscaping your garden can add as much value to your home as adding another bedroom – or more, depending on the type of landscaping you accomplish. There are several ways you can landscape. You can do it on your own, DIY style, or you can hire an expert. There are pros and cons to each, but if you aren’t confident about the landscaping, it’s a good idea to bring in an expert who will give you a series of standard options that are both appealing and affordable.
