If you’re expecting, one of the most important things that you can do is set up a nursery in your home. A nursery isn’t just important for the new life you’re about to welcome into your family. It’s important for you as a parent too. It gives you a safe space where you can change diapers, sit down with your baby in your arms and rock them gently to sleep or simply watch over them as they have wonderful dreams. So, let’s think about how to design and create the perfect little nursery for your baby.
Let’s get started with some of the basic needs that you should be thinking about for the nursery. Once we’ve covered these, we can perhaps look at some of the more interesting possibilities that new mums are certainly going to want to look into.
Get A Crib Or Possibly A Bassinet
This is a fairly common sense purchase for your little baby’s room. It’s a place where your little one is going to be able to rest their sweet head, and you are going to know that they are completely secure. One type of crib that you want to avoid is a drop crib, while still available online, these have been banned and are seen as dangerous. The most important thing to think about when you purchase a crib for your baby is that it is sturdy and it is made of the best materials. While you probably want your nursery to be a beautiful little haven, this should always be a secondary priority. Don’t worry though, there are plenty of well-made cribs that also have stunning designs.
Flooring You Can Fall Back On
Not literally of course. What this means is you won’t always get the baby to an area where they can spill before they start vomiting like a demon from a horror movie. If you’ve never witnessed a baby bringing their dinner back, it really is a remarkable sight. Somehow it manages to go in every direction. So, if you are smart, you might want to think about laminate flooring for your little nursery. That way if they do throw up everywhere, at least you’ll be able to clean it up easily. Laminate flooring is super easy to maintain. You can always dress it up a little with a rug that you’ll be able to throw right in the washing machine if anything gets on it.
I See You
A baby monitor isn’t something that you can think about getting, it’s something you need. Otherwise, you’re going to be running in and out of the nursery like a blue bottomed fly. In fact, you’ll probably find that you don’t get any sleep and never get to enjoy that comfy bed you were advised to get. The good news is that these days baby monitors are a lot more advanced. You’ll be able to get a live feed of the nursery in your room with night vision capabilities. You can even get baby monitors that will tell you how hot or cold your little one is which brings us to the next point.
Keeping The Nursery Cosy
You do need to make sure that you can provide the absolute optimum environment for your baby when they are in the nursery, and that includes keeping the nursery hot or possibly cold. For this, it’s important that you have the right heating equipment in the room and a 2 column is a great option because it spreads the heat evenly throughout the room and doesn’t take up a lot of space. It can even double as a mirror, though you’re probably not going to want to see the state you’re in when you’re looking after your newborn all that often.
A smart control system might also be a smart move here. That way, you can directly control how hot or cold the room is going to be, and if you do have a super awesome baby monitor, you can change the settings based on the temperature of the baby. Of course, the old school option would be to give the baby more or fewer coverings, but the tech is making things far easier for anxious mums. Now we’ve talked about some of what you need in your nursery let’s explore the options that you may want.
As soon as you find out you’re pregnant, you might already start planning ways to make your new nursery look stylish and beautiful. In fact, you could be bold and even try and create artwork for the wall yourself. Unfortunately, not all of us are artistically gifted. So, if your birds tend to look like clouds, your clouds always resemble cows, and your cows look like fat dogs, maybe opt for the easier approach.
Instead of designing the artwork for the room yourself, you can use wall decals. Wall decals allow you to decorate your nursery with your favourite Disney characters, tv toons or any other image that you’d like without breaking a sweat. They’re super simple to put up, and once your baby grows up, they are just as easy to take down.
Dreaming Of Starlit Skies
Wouldn’t it be wonderful if your baby could sleep under a starlit sky? Well, they can…sort of. To do this, you can add fairy lights to the ceiling and then cover them with another layer that acts as a fake ceiling. It costs around two hundred quid and is nowhere near as complicated as it sounds. However, if DIY gives you the heebie-jeebies, the best option is to hire a professional to complete this work for you.
Rock Them And You To Sleep
Finally, you might want to purchase a beautiful vintage rocking chair for your nursery. That way, both you and the little one can fall fast asleep together. Rocking chairs aren’t that expensive and really are the perfect option for a seat when it’s your turn to stay up with a crying infant.
I hope you take this advice on board and design a nursery that will give your little one the sweetest dreams.
