Fisher-Price Puppy ‘n Pals Learning Gym Review

March 5, 2017

A question I get asked a lot is “How do you get ready every morning?” The answer? Activity Gyms my friend, Activity Gyms! When Rory was younger we used one with a canopy of lights to keep his attention, but now he is older and more interested in using his hands to grab things, it was time to upgrade.

Cue the Fisher Price Puppy & Pals Learning Gym! When pregnant (and oh so naive) I bought a plain grey and white activity gym, yes aesthetically pleasing, but Rory went in it for all of 30 seconds. The Puppy & Pals is full of bright colours that stimulate and keep his attention for ages!

At four months he is really interested in looking at objects and getting the co-ordination together to grab at them, his face when he grabs something is truly amazing. For that activity gyms are fantastic. I love this one as all the toys are long so he can reach them. Most of the toys have something he can actually grab onto and the others make noise so when he ‘bats’ them, he thinks he is hilarious. The gym also has loops to be able to hang them at all different heights so that you can work it around your baby. His favourite is the black and white kite rattle as its super easy for him to grab a hold of!

The Puppy has 2 different settings, Look & Listen is amazing as it plays 20 minutes of continuous music including sung songs and instrumentals and Explore & Discover introduces action and reaction. Rory loves it as it plays music and has a flashing nose – I love it because it’s portable and can keep him occupied in other rooms while I do chores. It makes tummy time more fun for him as he has something to look at that is stimulating and that he can interact with. He thinks the dog is absolutely hilarious and I often catch him chatting (bellowing!) away at it. Do we spot a budding new friendship?

From a mummy perspective I love that its not as big as most activity mats, its big enough to have everything it needs, but the size means its easy to tuck away when it’s not being used, or if you choose to pop it to one side like I do, it doesn’t take up too much space.
It makes me feel better that Rory has something that will help stimulate and develop his sensory skills, leaving me able to carry on doing necessary chores or getting ready without feeling guilty! It’s also a good investment, the Puppy not only plays songs but the music is all educational discussing colours, numbers and animals meaning that it can stay with him as he gets older making this toy a fab investment.
